John 'Bluto' Blutarsky and a lot of other college students wouldn't like a proposal in Rhode Island to get students through college in three years instead of four. After all, 'Bluto' was the hero of college students all over the United States in the late '70s and early '80s, partly because he had already managed to spend seven years in college when he and his fraternity buddies took on Dean Wormer and Doug Neidermeyer in Animal House . Parents faced with skyrocketing college bills might welcome the idea of getting their kids through in three years, but from my experience, it seemed that most college students wanted to hang out as long as possible. Why rush the best four or seven years of your life? |
