Brawling brides always make headlines. Even the sleepiest editor realizes that people will read stories about a woman in a beautiful white gown throwing punches in a reception hall or wrestling in a hotel hallway. Readers were treated to two stories this week about brides behaving badly, but why are people always so surprised when brides get into dustups on their wedding days? Consider the story of the New York bride who was arrested along with her husband and daughter following a wedding night brawl. Fabiana Reyes, 41, was accused of breaking her wedding band's drums and a speaker during an April 5 reception at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Sounds terrible until you realize that the bride was ticked off because the band wasn't playing live music. I don't know if they were lip synching or taking extended breaks, but you can understand the bride getting upset. It was her big day, and she wanted it to be perfect. I suspect the caterer would have gotten the same treatment if he'd shown up with cold food, and the photographer might have gotten roughed up if he forgot his camera. You just don't mess with a bride on her big day. (If you want to find out more about the other bride, read the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story: "Love, (Bam!) honor (Pow!) and obey (Wham!): Wedding night brawl lands couple in jail," including a photograph of the bride emerging from jail in her wedding gown and veil.) |
