Why lousy daters make good spouses and vice versa

Here's good news for bad daters.

A new study suggests that men and women who say the wrong thing, spill soup on their laps and build a reputation as dating disasters may be lucky in love.

And, no, it's not because they're destined to remain single.

In an article headlined "Why perfect dates make lousy partners," the Website livescience.com reports that the issue comes down to "self-monitoring."

If I understand right, people who "self-monitor" try to use good manners, wear clean clothes and bring their wallets when they go on dates.

High "self-monitors" are desirable, well-liked and tend to do well at work, according to the study, but spouse hunters are apparently better off with undesirable, unpopular underachievers, because high "self-monitors" tend to have intimacy and commitment problems.

So if you're fretting about fumbling your last date, don't worry about it. Apparently the only really bad date is a really good date.

And unless you can look past the mistmatched socks, the chewing while talking and the insults, you might have a lot of trouble finding Mr. or Ms. Right.
