Helmsley's gift makes me suspicious of dogs

Billionaire Leona Helmsley's decision to leave $12 million to her dog sheds light on a trend that complicates the relationship between man and his best friend.

The Associated Press reports that Helmsley isn't the only dog owner to leave money to her pet. She may be the only one who's left $12 million, but other people are
including pets in their wills, too.

Some people say that dogs offer unconditional love. I've always been suspicous of that claim. Do you think Fido is happy that you come home after work, because he'll listen to your problems with the boss, or because he thinks you'll feed him?

It's always been difficult to figure out what's going on in a dog's head. You see them chasing their tails, and you end up scratching your head. And now we've got to wonder if they're only acting happy when we get home, because they want to stay in our good graces. After all, they don't want to end up getting stiffed like those Helmsley grandchildren who were left out of the will, because they'd butted heads with grandma dearest.

Are dogs dog loyal or just dog greedy?

Given what some of them stand to gain, I've got to wonder whether dogs long for that fateful day when their masters don't make it home.
