We've all heard of road rage, but now the police in Arlington, Mass., are dealing with "bikeway rage." The 11-mile Minuteman Bikeway, which runs through Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington and Bedford, has become a stage for all sorts of bad behavior, according to a story Sunday in The Boston Globe. Along that crowded stretch shared by bicyclists, runners, walkers and roller bladers, collisions are common. Bicyclists pedal while talking on the cell phone. (Sound familiar?) Some poor woman pushing her baby daughter in a stroller was the subject of unwanted sexual advances. The police had to track down a bicyclist who kicked somebody's dog as he yelled at its owner to "Get the (expletive) over to the right." Some men have even been spotted running naked along the bike path. And I bet those outfits, or non-outfits, are only slightly less revealing than the uniforms worn by the hundreds of Lance Armstrong wannabes who zip along the trail in skin-tight spandex suits. I am a commuter and I drive back and forth to my work which is nearby my home. My neighborhood is pretty close-knit that people walk their dogs and ride their bikes not only on the bike paths, but on the streets as well. There are stop signs at nearly every block so traffic is not so bad. Recently, when I stopped at an intersection that has a 4 way stop, I recently got "attacked" by 2 teens on their bikes, who had nothing better to do that day than to purposely ride their bikes slowly in front of my car and continuosly blocked me and provoked me to hit them. Obviously, everyone knows that if a car hits a biker, then the one in the car is at fault so these teens purposely aggravated me because they knew they are protected. Is there any protection at all for careful drivers who get "attacked" this way? Whether they are kids or adults, I consider this as an attack. There should be some sort of protection for the drivers too.
