Is this America's revenge for 'Achy Breaky Heart?'

Is America finally getting back at Billy Ray Cyrus for "Achy Breaky Heart," mullets and line dancing?

For what seemed like an eternity in 1992, you couldn't listen to the radio for more than 10 minutes without hearing the mulleted Cyrus bleating his hit song. "Achy Breaky Heart" topped the country charts, reached No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 and was also credited (blamed?) for a resurgence in line dancing.

Now Cyrus is dancing (stumbling?) his way through Dancing with the Stars. He seems very much like a guy who deserves and wants to go home, but the audience keeps voting off other celebrity dancers and making him stay.

Cyrus deserves our sympathy. He seems like a nice guy -- self-effacing and gentlemanly -- but he's no dancer. And what these celebrities are going through isn't easy. They're paired with professional dancers who would make good Marine drill sergeants, and they're at a point in the competition where they must learn two new dances each week.

Some thought Cyrus seemed surprised and disappointed when he learned last night that John Ratzenberger -- Cliff Clavin from the television show Cheers -- was voted off the dance floor. Ratzenberger isn't much of a dancer either, but Cyrus made him look like Fred Astaire on Tuesday night.

Now Cyrus faces another week with his tiny drill sergeant teaching him two new dances just so he can humiliate himself in front of a national television audience. It seems like a tough way to treat the guy, but maybe he deserves it.

And who knows? Maybe the next season of Dancing with the Stars will feature Vanilla Ice. I bet a lot of fans would like to show their appreciation for the unforgettable "Ice Ice Baby."
