What's happening to society? Will it get so bad that you can't go to the fights without a symphony breaking out? By now you must have heard about the fight Wednesday during a Boston Pops concert at Symphony Hall in Boston. After all, the story was picked up by newspapers and Web sites all over the country, Australia and even the English version of Pravda. These are confusing times. I thought immature adult behavior and fights involving grown ups were restricted to the highways and Little League baseball games. Are the rules changing? What's next? Brawls during the ballet? Tilts at tea time? I don't know much about the symphony (I only listen to that kind of music when I'm put on hold), but I suspect audience members are required to dress well, nod their heads knowingly and clap politely. Punching fellow concert-goers or tearing somebody else's shirt off would be discouraged. If people are dropping their white gloves and fighting at symphony concerts, what kind of behavior can we expect from them in the deli line or at the PTA meeting? |
