It's probably too harsh to claim that Rhode Island state government is acting like Big Brother with its employees.
Big Momma might be more appropriate.

Your choice: Veggie hash?

You remember mom demanding that we eat our vegetables when all we wanted were the Twinkies and candy bars.
As it turns out, most of us weren't listening to mom, or if we were, we stopped eating our vegetables -- just as we stopped making our beds and going to church -- when we moved out of the house.
Some recent studies show that few Americans are eating the recommended three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruits daily.
Who has the time or stamina to chew all that lettuce? Besides, chocolate chip cookies taste better.

Or zeppoles?

As part of the state's efforts to get its kids to eat more fruit and vegetables, Get Fit, Rhode Island, with the state Department of Health, is hosting an event this afternoon at the State House where a chef will demonstrate cooking skills and the benefits of "healthy food choices."
The state says all of its employees are invited, including the 2,500 who work in the State House area. I'm guessing they'll have plenty of room in that big building on the hill to accomodate everyone who turns out.
But they would need a much bigger building if that chef were baking zeppoles.
